Loomis immediately ordered out Captain Stone's 1st Kentucky and his own famous 1st Michigan Battery, and replied to them. The cannonading for a few moments was terrific. From my position to the right and out of danger, I could very plainly see the rebel guns, and beyond them as distinctly the town of Murfreesboro, and a redoubt about a mile this side.
