At this place two or three buildings, including the station house, were burned to the ground, and most of the inhabitants deserted, leaving their houses in charge of negroes.
" Here we rested for about an hour, after which we resumed our march and proceeded about a mile and camped for the night. The next morning was cold and disagreeable. During the night we had a light fall of snow, which prevented our sleeping, as we had no shelter.
