First Regiment Light Artillery

It crossed Cheat Mountain October 1st, and on the 3d marched to Green-brier and took part in the action at that point. After a severe cannonading of four hours the Union force retired with small loss. After, the engagement the battery returned to Elkwater, remaining there until the 30th and then moved to Huttonsville and encamped. On December 6th moved to Phillippi, West Va., and on the 16th was ordered to report to General Buell at Louisville, Ky., reaching there December 22d, when the battery on the 31st was ordered to Bacon Creek, doing considerable duty at that point.
