whose report to General McClelland gave it great credit for discipline and efficiency in drill. July 6th it again took up the line of march, having a slight skirmish at Middlefork bridge, and on the 10th marched to Soaring river. On July 11th ft participated in the battle of Rich Mountain, in which the enemy was driven from his position, said to be almost impregnable, causing the capture of his subsistence and ordnance stores, including several pieces of artillery, which were turned over to the battery by order of the general commanding.
