Civil War Artillery
First Regiment Light Artillery
FIRST REGIMENT LIGHT ARTILLERY.
' Then shook the hills with thunder riven, Then rush'd the steeds to battle driven, And louder than the bolts of heaven, Far flash'd the red artillery. "
The regiment of Michigan Light Artillery was composed of twelve six-gun batteries. It was commanded by Colonel C. 0. Loomis; but from the character of that arm of the service the batteries were never brought together as a regiment.
Daring its term of service it had carried on its rolls 3, 333 officers and men, while. 265 had re-enlisted as veterans in the several batteries.
