Civil War Engineers
Engineers and Mechanics
The regiment did not number over 315 officers and men, but it; fought this greatly superior force until dark, with a loss of only one killed and six wounded, defeating every attempt at capture, until the darkness compelled their withdrawal with heavy loss, estimate at something over a hundred in killed and wounded. During the engagement, which lasted for five hours, the enemy made seven separate and distinct charges, sometimes forcing their horses on the very breastworks, but which were as often gallantly repelled.
