Eleventh Regiment Infantry

Colonel Stoughton says: "At the battle of Chickamauga September 20, the 11th Michigan was in my brigade-and participated in the hottest of the fight under General Thomas, holding a dangerous and exposed position until after dark, and was one of the last if not the very last regi, ment that left the field. " Lossing says of the fighting late on the 20th:
"There was now a lull of half an hour. It was the deep calm before the bursting of the tempest.
