The report of Adjutant L. T. Squire says:
"At the battle of Chickamauga we were hotly engaged on the 19th and 20th Septem-ber. On the latter day the brigade, under command of Colonel Stoughton, of the 11th Michigan, held one of the most important hills on Mission Ridge, covering the approach to Rossville, against largely superior forces of the enemy until 8 o'clock at night, ana was. the last to leave the field. "
