Michigan Civil War
Eleventh Regiment Infantry
When near the cleared fields to the right of the Murfreesboro pike, the regiment was rallied and held the ground for twenty or thirty minutes; it was then marched about half way across the open field, when orders came to charge back into the cedars. My regiment promptly obeyed my orders, rallied on the colors and charged back into the woods with great gallantry, checking the enemy by the sudden and impetuous attack. After delivering one volley orders came to retire and the regiment fell buck in good order to the left of the Murfreesboro pike.
