Michigan Civil War
Eighth Regiment Infantry
The 8th at Fort Mahon was in the 1st brigade, 1st division (Willcox's) of the 9th corps, which is noticed in the Annual Cyclopedia for 1865 as follows:
The 9th corps advanced simultaneously with the 6th, and after the severest fighting on the field captured Tort Mahon, which covered the Jerusalem Plank Road. But the position was too important to be lost; the enemy charged in turn to retake it and were nearly successful, when by the approach of the 6th corps on the left he was once more driven back. "
