The fight was fiercest at the junction of these two corps, and General Crawford's 3d division of the 5th corps, General Carr's 4th division of the 2d corps, and General Stevens's division of the 9th corps suffered the most heavily.
On the 8th it marched in command of Colonel Ralph Ely, who had succeeded to the command, through Chancellorsville, to Spottsylvania Court House, and on the 12th took part in an assault on the enemy's intrenchments, losing 49 officers and men, Lieutenant Edgar A.
