Eighth Regiment Infantry
The object of the reconnoissance having been effected, the force about dark embarked, and on the 18th returned to Beaufort.
In this affair fell two gallant officers, Adjutant N. Minor Pratt, killed instantly, and Lieutenant Frederick M. Badger, who died of his wounds three days afterwards in hospital at Beaufort.
Colonel Fenton makes the following report:
Headquarters 8th Reg't, Michigan Volunteebs,
(On Board Steamer Honduras. Off Wilmington Island, Ga., 11 o'clock P. M., April 16, 1862.
