On the 2d it recrossed the river and went into camp at Gray's Hill, and on the 13th moved to Beaufort and encamped, engaged on guard and picket duty during the month. February and March we're spent on guard and picket duty, and engaged on several reconnoitering parties to different points. On February 4th the regiment moved to Gray's Hill, and, relieving the 79th New York Highlanders, was employed on picket duty, remaining there until March 10th, when it returned to camp at Beaufort, and was engaged on drill and picket duty until April 9th, when it moved to Tybee Island, Ga., and on reporting to General Gillmore it was bivouacked in rear of Battery Halleck until the surrender of Fort Pulaski, and then occupied Goat Point.
