EIGHTEENTH REGIMENT INFANTRY

The movement was successfully executed under a galling fire. The enemy was driven from his cover and 115 prisoners captured, with a loss to the detachment of only two slightly wounded. Following is the report of Colonel Doolittle to the general commanding the district, giving a detailed account of the affair:
" I have the honor to submit for the consideration of the general commanding the following report of the part taken by my command in the defense of Decatur, beginning on the 26th day and ending on the 30th day of October.
