The rebels made an attempt, early in October, to land and surprise, under cover of night, the detachment of the regiment on duty at Lady's Island, but were discovered, and after a brisk skirmish, driven off.
The headquarters of this regiment on November 1st, 1864, were at Beaufort, S. C, and the several companies thereof were doing picket duty on the outposts of Port Royal, Lady's, and Coosa Islands during that month and December.
