though before I was able to cut the road through the thick brush and take the piece to the new position the enemy had re-formed and commenced firing quite lively, at the same time advancing on our line, which compelled me to leave the pieces in their position. The following men of my command were severely wounded: Corporal Frederick Beninghoff lost his leg; Private Chas. Baughman lost his right leg; Private Richard Shuman lost his right arm; Private Jesse C. Benjamin received a musket ball through the left arm; Private John Endlick wounded in the foot.
