GENERAL; ORDERS. Officers and Soldiers: Orders having been received announcing our advance on the morrow, the lieutenant colonel commanding, with feelings of sincere gratitude, desires to congratulate you on the soldierly deportment, the manly courage and unswerving fidelity to duty, which have characterized the conduct of each of you since the consummation of the late active service in this campaign. Whether on the march or in hot conflict with the enemy, a marked determination to act as though the whole responsibility of success or defeat rested upon his shoulders, has been manifest in each individual effort. So long as life is spared him, he will not forget how officers and soldiers strained every energy to resist the overwhelming force of the enemy in the late and unfortunate affair near Kingston.
