In the meantime the enemy had fallen back from his position before Chattanooga, and General Sherman's command being detached to reenforce the army of General Burnside at Knoxville. On the 29th November the mounted detachment of the 4th Michigan, under command of Major Bobbins as apart of Colonel Long's brigade, joined it, moved through Harrison, scouring the MICHIGAN IN THE WAR. 659 country to Cleveland, thence to Benton, capturing a large amount of rebel stock and thirty prisoners.
