11th Cavalry


After the engagement at Cynthiana the regiment rendezvoused at Lexington. On the 23d of August it moved to Camp Burnside, on the Cumberland river, and was employed with other troops in scouting and protecting the southern border of Kentucky from the threatened invasion of Wheeler's rebel cavalry, being engaged on the 30th at Point Burnside.
From an official report:
" On the 17th of September following it was ordered to Mount Sterling, Ky., and thence engaged with its division, in command of General Burbridge, in a raid to Saltville, Va. Encountering the enemy at McCormick's Farm, Ky., on the 23d, and then at Laurel Mountain, Va., on the 29th, and at Bowen's Farm on the 30th and October 1st.
